Giverny Milchak Multilayer Stick 01 Purple Highlighter REVIEW & SWATCHES [K-beauty]

There is nothing dull about the Giverny Milchak Multilayer Stick - the shade 01 Purple Highlighter will bring life back into your face!

Look, I'll be very honest - I am not into highlighters. Not one bit - I think that there's no place for them outside of movies, photo studios and frilly evenings out. Do consider that this is coming from someone who's been doing 'no makeup' every day for years now.

That being said, I am still a sucker for pretty makeup - especially when it's any shade of purple.
There came in Giverny, with all the luxurious packaging and promises to brighten my skin...

When I got this in my hands, I looked at the wee little tube thinking - well, this might be one more throwaway thing that I really didn't need...

Let's start with the usual - packaging. Plastic, but sturdy and with a lovely colour contrast - the ever-coveted white and rose gold!

Inside the twisty tube hides a chubby stick of lilac goodness - twisty twist and admire the colour!
Or, you know, actually use it...

The other end hides a little flat-tip sponge for blending - it's soft and squishy, and actually aids in blending the product rather than completely wiping it off! Count me pleasantly surprised, I usually ignore these built-in sponges.

Part of the reason, I think, is the material - this sponge is made from a material very similar to the beauty blender, and that's the key (me thinks). Other 'cushions' are usually thick and stiff sponges, whereas this is a puffy, squishy blending tool!

The formula of this is quite interesting - it's matte, rather dry, but slick. Not oily whatsoever, neither does it cling to dryness.
Also, I noticed there is minuscule shimmer sometimes, but not actually visible unless you're going macro on your pores!

In the swatches above you can see that the colour, albeit gorgeous, doesn't actually look bright at all on the skin - thankfully. What you get is a very pale, faint hint of lilac that, when blended, really does brighten the skin - on the right you can see a strip of the product blended in. Tell me it doesn't look a heck brighter?

I use this Giverny Milchak Multilayer Stick on days when my skin looks and feels dull - a couple swipes under the eyes, on cheek bones, nose and chin. Suddenly, I look like a well-rested almost human being!

In terms of it being a highlighter - it's not really, and I think that's where my affection for the Milchak Purple Highlighter stick lies. It brightens, beautifully, but doesn't make you look like you have strips of powder gleaming in the sunlight.

If you're looking for a subtle, surefire way of brightening your skin - this little Multilayer Stick in 01 Purple highlighter is wonderful!
If you're looking for a beaming highlighter - walk away, this is not for you.

But boy do I love this!

Overall rating - 9/10

Cons: not an actual highlighter

Who will like this: someone who's looking for a way to brighten the skin easily - and is a fan of rose gold! Anyone into makeup looking for a good colour-corrector.

  1. I love highlighters but those which make your skin radiant and looking healthy (not like tin foil). This one sounds and looks interesting so I'll probably give it a go
