When Life Gets in the Way...

Thursday, October 01, 2015 Kotryna Fijalkauskaite 0 Comments

Hello, lovelies.
I apologize for missing about a month worth of posts, but life just got in the way...
I want to post something personal, and not cheerful, but I feel like I just need to talk about it.

Cancer....

Last week my family was hit with the news that my grandmother has stomach cancer. Furthermore, it has metastasized into her lungs, making it extra dangerous to treat.
It would be the understatement of the decade to say that it took my by surprise. I am still in utter devastation and shock, and disbelief.

My grandmother is the healthiest person I know - even doctors marveled at how all her blood-work is akin to that of a 20 year old. Even now that the prognosis seems bleak at best, she is not experiencing any symptoms that would be otherwise connected to her condition.
She's lost a lot of weight, and is tired more so than usual, but doesn't let it get in her way - for her staying at home and doing nothing is torture, and she tries to get out of the house as often as possible, even if it is to take out the garbage.

All that considered I was convinced that it couldn't be anything serious. Got proven wrong - not that I wanted to be.

Honestly, I never thought I would have to deal with this kind of news. No family history of any serious illnesses, not to mention that my grandma is the picture of health. All I keep asking is 'Why?!'
Why the hell (pardon the language)?!

My grandma had a tough life - an orphan at 8, took care of her little brother, supported herself by tutoring other kids. But she didn't stray and finished school at 16, then university at 20 and became a teacher.

She helped so many young people get on the right track, start their lives on the right now.

To me, she is my idol.
She taught me all school-related subjects before I even knew what school was - I already could read on my own by the time I was 3 years old.
Not only that, she taught me kindness and understanding - her students never felt that she was just their teacher and that they didn't matter.

She took care of every one of them, sometimes being the friend they need to talk to about their issues, sometimes the strict, yet loving parent that taught them how to live and learn with pride and joy.

When someone couldn't afford to buy lunch, she paid for them. When a child couldn't afford season-appropriate clothes for Autumn and Winter, she collected clothes from us, her friends, and even bought some, in order to make sure that child did not get sick and felt comfortable and taken care of.

So why her? When there are so many evil people in this world, why is a person, who gave so much goodness and kindness to everyone she met, pulled through such terrible ordeal?

It's been about two months now, and since then I've moved away to London for work. I struggle to this day with my decision... She told me she wants me to find happiness, and I know her well enough to know that if I stayed, she'd only feel guilty for 'keeping me'.

But I can't stop tearing up every time I think about the fact that I'm not there for her. My grandma always took care of me, always. Now that she's going through this horrible ordeal I am not there for her...and sure, she's got my mom and sister, grandpa and my aunt, but we always shared a special kind of bond and I feel terrible for being away.

At the same time I want to find my path, I want to achieve great things - I want her to be proud of me. I want to show her that she raised a good person...

I try to remain strong, but every now and then I just burst into tears when I think about my childhood and all the happy, careless days I spent with my grandma.

I have no idea how to deal with this situation, I have no idea what to say to her other than 'stay strong'...I feel lost, miserable and furious (all the 5 stages in one I suppose)..I sometimes wish that I could close my eyes really tightly and turn back the clock...

Honestly, I tried writing posts, but nothing came up. After getting hit with these news everything else kind of took a seat in the back row - I know it's there, but I can't really see or hear anything. My mind is a great mess right now, and I'm not sure where to start sorting it out..

I am trying to get back on my feet, my new job kind of makes me do that. Hopefully I'll get back to my blog soon..

I am not a religious person, but if You are I want to ask for a favor - pray for my grandma. Whoever you are, wherever you are, just a drop of positive energy makes a difference...

Thank you

XoXo,

Korean Beauty Reviews: Missha Painting Rouge Chiffon [CRD01 & CPP01]

Happy August, everyone!
Here in Lithuania summer finally decided to show up (and smother us with heat), making work at the office even more of an exhausting ordeal.
Liters and liters of water, coffees and teas have been consumed in the attempt of staying hydrated and awake, and at the same time millions of glances have been stolen at the pocket mirror to make sure all that hydration did not leave me with lipstick-stained teeth.
This is where I bow to the goddesses of makeup that have descended on Missha and gave them the brilliant idea to release the Painting Rouge Chiffon line.

Hello there, beautiful! It's been a while, huh?
I have really neglected my blog the past couple months because of personal reasons - something I want to share with you today.
I want to talk about psoriasis and all the woes and joys that comes with it. It's way too long to fit into a single post (at least if I hope people to actually read it), so I will split it into a few parts.
Starting with part 1 - what are you waiting for? Jump in for my story!

Winter Favorites & Quick Reviews of the TOP 4

Seems like Spring is in full swing. Ha, sorry for the bit of rhyme there, I'm simply loving the weather at the moment!
After reading/watching many 'favorites' posts, I looked over my stash and realized that just like in the Fall, I've been pretty consistent with my Winter favorites - they all pretty much remained in continuous rotation up to this day. It will be a bit of a lengthy post though, since I want to include 'mini-reviews' of a few products.

Without much further ado, let's jump to see what I've refused to let out of my sight this Winter!

Quick Update: Global Websites for Innisfree and Etude House!

Wednesday, February 11, 2015 Catherina F. 0 Comments

Hello lovelies! Today it will be a quickie.
A while back I was browsing the websites for Innisfree and Etude House, making little wishlists, as you do :) and in the process I noticed that the websites are lagging quite a lot! But then I saw notices go up, in Korean of course, saying that is due to the upcoming webpage changes. As I do not read Korean all that well, I didn't realize it was referring to the addition of actual global website!

*drum roll please*

I am incredibly excited to tell you that both Innisfree and Etude House now have English websites that offer international shipping!

This is the first window you get once you type http://innisfree.co.kr

If you click on PURCHASING (or go straight to http://www.innisfreeworld.com) you will be taken to an English version of their website, where you will be able to make international purchases! Another incredible feature is the fact that they offer free shipping - it comes with a certain purchase amount, and is certainly a lovely feature to have. Full instructions on how to get it are on the website.

***Currently there is a deal going on for sheet masks - 10+10 (buy 10 get 10 free) so make use of it while you can! It lasts until Feb. 15***

There are other offers available, such as 2+2 for hand cream as well as sample kits (if you buy over 50$ you can pick 2 'solution kits', one to use for yourself, one to give to your friend if you'd like).

Oh, and I cannot pass this up - currently you can buy 'Minho's Kra-bag' on sale! There are 10 designs to chose from and you get a tote bag, makeup pouch and card wallet. It is important to note that part of the proceeds received for these bags will be donated to build a school in Africa!

The website itself, I find, is rather chic looking with its simplistic design and use of earth tones. It is vastly different from its Korean counterpart, though. The Korean website is a lot more reliant on 'cute' visual presentation and is 'lighter' in both colors and design. Whereas the International page is playing the 'eco' card and the presentation is very 'nature' oriented. I find both websites easy to navigate, however, as I am used to the Korean version, it took a bit of time playing around to get a grip on the general commands. Overall, it is very aesthetically pleasing (more so than the Korean version, I must say) and comfortable to use.
What I do like about this website is how user-friendly it is - even if you are completely new to Innisfree, you won't have much trouble finding things that might interest you. They have the '8 solutions' section, where you can pick which issues you have and will see corresponding skin care line. The only drawback, but I am sure it is only temporary, is that not all their products are available (yet). So far the focus seems to be on skincare rather than makeup, but I am hoping in a short while majority of their products will be available internationally.
The website determines your location and currency, on the right at the top of the page, which can be adjusted to your preference. There is extensive information in English on shipping as well as the products. I have to say I am very pleased and impressed by this page and I am pretty it will make their business skyrocket!

Now for Etude House - there is a separate page, unlike the re-direction on Innisfree website, for English/International users - http://www.etudehouse.com
Click this and it will take you to the English version of their page. Once again, like Innisfree, this version is a lot simpler than the Korean one and it has a lot less visuals. It still retains the trademark pink design, making it very recognizable.
The page, in my oppinion, lacks a bit of 'personality', if you will. I expected something more 'princess-y' and eye-catching, seeing as this is Etude House. Perhaps that will come in the future? But the current design is easy on the eyes, and is fairly simple to navigate. It did not impress me as much as the Innisfree one, mainly due to the lack of general effort in terms of 'appeal' as well as it being more reliant on people knowing about their products in advance.

***Promotion going on currently for their new Liquid In Lips lip color - until Feb. 22***

So here it is - really exciting news, don't you think? Now, hopefully, a whole lot more people will be able to try these two brands and learn why others have fallen in love with them.
Also, I expect other Korean brands to follow suit and come out with their international pages. Only time will tell what happens next.

Perhaps you already have your eye on something? Do tell me about it in the comments bellow.
Happy shopping, everyone!

Don't forget to subscribe and spread the love~

Today's post is inpired by many New Years resolutions I've heard throughout the years that concern wanderlust and cooking as separate 'points'.
My thought was - why not put it together?

Want to read more? Perhaps add a little something to your New Years Resolution?
